We built this from nothing. No major club backing. No deep pockets. Just a small space, the right idea, and 10 years of work.
Houston Futsal Association began in an 800 sq. ft. corner of a CrossFit warehouse in Pasadena. We were a one-trainer program averaging 8–10 athletes per month.
Our unique way of teaching made an impact quickly — and that's when word of mouth took over. We were lucky to have enough numbers to stay after hours on Friday nights for true "pick-up play" after training.
Everything changed when we realized how few kids were playing pick-up soccer outside anymore. There was a market need for a simple, cultural concept — just play.
We gained momentum partnering with our first community church, Pasadena Mission Center. The slippery tiled floor and tight walls were exactly what we needed to build a true culture of futsal.
We formed as a 501(c) and built a year-round system with futsal at the CORE of youth soccer development. Today, HFA is the biggest futsal developmental program in all of Houston — the first ground-up program with no affiliation to a major soccer club.
We are extremely proud to have the most registered teams of any club at Houston-area futsal tournaments, averaging 10 teams across multiple age groups.
Houston Futsal's Boys and Girls futsal programs are now Club Neutral — meaning players do not have to play outdoor soccer for HFA to train and compete in futsal with us.
Players can remain with their current outdoor club, team, and league while using HFA Futsal as an additional development environment.
Our goal is to bring players from across the Houston area together to train, compete, and develop through the game of futsal.
Players from HFA, another soccer club, another league, or no outdoor club at all are welcome.

In 2018, Houston Futsal started in a local gym. No massive complex. No perfect facility. No long list of teams. Just a court, a group of kids, coaches who believed in the game, and a vision for what futsal could become in our community.

This is more meaningful than "HFA is expanding." We believe great family and soccer communities can grow from small beginnings. We have lived it ourselves. Futsal became the foundation of HFA in Houston because it gave players a place to develop technique, confidence, creativity and a genuine love for the ball.
Now we have an opportunity to plant that same foundation in a new community. We are not arriving in Iowa Colony expecting everything to happen overnight. We are starting with one gym. One court. Three programs. And a commitment to developing the players who walk through those doors.
